Overview

Whether we are interested in building a kingdom focussed personal life, or are building a business, ministry, church or other enterprise, the Scriptures have key wisdom about what outcomes we should be aiming for and what building blocks we should be using. This course is based on a passage from 2 Peter 1:5-11 with reference to experience and research in building kingdom businesses, churches and kingdom-based corporate training

Session 1 – Kingdom Mission and Vision
  • Recognising our common mission – The whole of history from creation to the descent of the New Jerusalem as recorded in Scripture can be seen as the Father’s mission to create a heaven in the natural world
  • Understanding our personal vision – Each of us has a role to play in the Father’s mission. We determine this vision by understanding our callings, giftings and appointings
  • Pursuing personal vision – Our gifts, callings and appointings change in different ways and there are keys to successfully adapting and pursuing our calling

Session 2 – Kingdom values and culture
  • Understanding the values-based nature of Kingdom vision - The type of vision referred to in Scripture is about people and their behaviours
  • Using a kingdom values model - There are eight essential kingdom values that we should consider. These values are repeated throughout Scripture in different ways
  • Understanding how to embed kingdom values (changing culture) – Identifying poor cultural drivers, understanding the 3 levels of cultural change and 4 common cultural change strategies from Scripture

Session 3 – Faith Foundations
  • The building blocks and aspects of kingdom success – There are 4 essential aspects to build a kingdom life, business, church, ministry or other enterprise. Attending to these things brings fruitfulness, spirituality and abundant entrance into the kingdom
  • Developing your faith foundation – Understanding the nature of faith, how it comes and  distinguishing it from hope. Understanding the five arenas and three horizons of faith
  • Staying in faith - Understanding how to turn tribulations into love, distinguishing between heart and head doubt (and the different responses). Understanding the channels of provision and keeping focussed on the source

Session 4 - Adding virtue
  • Adding value - Faith is not enough to build a kingdom enterprise. We need to add virtue (value-add and excellence)
  • Personal and corporate strengths – Ways to understand and develop your personal strengths. Aligning your roles with your skills and interests. Understanding corporate value chains and core competencies with a view for strategy and innovation
  • Developing excellence – attitudes and systems for feedback, goal setting, types of goals, measures and indicators and managing for results processes

Session 5 – Adding knowledge
  • Developing your skills – The development of know-how should be in the context of faith and value-add and there are five categories of skills we should consider developing
  • Logical thinking Skills – developing your critical thinking, weighted decision matrices, drilling down and force field analysis
  • Creative thinking skills - intuitive decision making, positive constructive daydreaming, breaking associative barriers

Session 6 – Adding emotional intelligence
  • Fruits of the Spirit – The fruits of the Spirit are needed to fulfil the journey of our faith. Tribulations come to show us our need for growth in perseverance and love
  • Understanding Emotional intelligence (EI) – EI includes the fruits of the Spirit and other emotional competencies represented in Scripture that are keys to success. There are 5 Emotional intelligences (representing 21 emotional competencies)
  • Building your Emotional intelligence (EI) – Successful leaders identify and intentionally build specific emotional competencies. We give ideas on how to build each competency

Session 7 – Building Kingdom communities
  • The nature of church (ekklesia) – What does Jesus consider to be a church?, the characteristics of Jesus’ ekklesia, the descriptions of church in Scripture
  • The SED values Model – This model of 8 dimensions of values gives a basis for churches, businesses and other kingdom communities to build a healthy kingdom community
  • The Ascension gifts – Kingdom communities need the influence of these development gifts for growth and love. There are 4 levels to each of these gifts. The prominence of any of these gifts gives rise to different cultures

Session 8 – Breaking growth barriers
  • Energising your community – Energised communities (either in church or business) grow as they give out to others. So we should consider what brings and takes away energy
  • Understanding Plateaus – Growing organisations tend plateau for predictable reasons related to strategy, leadership and structure. In the church, the predominant goals (eg discipleship, family, ministry) determine the size of the plateau
  • Breaking plateaus – There are 4 primary leadership roles – leading yourself, managing others, leading others and leading leaders. Being able to add new leadership functions is one of the critical aspects of breaking plateaus

Wayne Back was originally a physicist and has spent three decades helping various types of people and organisations develop their management, leadership and organisational capacities. He also consults with various types of organisations in strategic development and cultural change programs. He has a particular passion for entrepreneurship, helping people and organisations to harness their passions and strengths to identify and seize the opportunities. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours), a Diploma in Ministry and a Masters in Management with a major in organisational development
